Professor Christos Bergeles

Professor Christos Bergeles earned his Ph.D. in Robotics from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, in 2011. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery at Imperial College London.

As a Professor at King’s College London, Prof. Bergeles leads the Robotics and Vision in Medicine Lab, dedicated to pioneering micro-surgical robots capable of delivering regenerative therapies deep within the human body. He also serves as Deputy Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Engineering for Personalised Surgery & Intervention.

His accolades include an ERC Starting Grant (2017–2023) and multiple rounds of i4i NIHR funding (2017–2020, 2022–2025) for his groundbreaking work in developing instrumentation to deliver stem cells to diseased retinal layers.

Bergeles has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, with his research cited more than 3,500 times (h-index: 30). A Senior Member of IEEE, he is widely recognized for his contributions to the fields of robotics, vision, and advanced surgical instrumentation.
